The Salty Sleuth!
A Cozy Mystery

Rejections are part of being a writer. Learn to love them for the right reasons:

Reason #1 - They teach you what is working.

Reason #2 - They speak to what you're doing that's right.

Reason #3 - They teach you what not to do.

Reason #4 - Getting a response at all means something (agents don't have to).

Reason #5 - It is the green light to query another agent.

Reason #6 - It prompts you to make changes for the better.

Reason #7 - It moves you one step closer to getting your Agent.

That's me at the helm. When I'm not writing, I'm sailing, or thinking of sailing.

This is my journey to getting my agent!
As a debut author or a seasoned one, you still need an agent to represent you and your book.

 What's the Salty Sleuth About?

South Pluffton reporter Charlotte "Chip” Fitzgerald lives for truth and justice. Her immediate world crumbles when Rowdy, her beloved dog, runs off after their car accident. Rowdy isn’t a service dog, but he could be - he takes amazing care of his hu-woman. Orphaned five years prior and driven by this trauma – the unsolved murders of her parents and sister – Charlotte becomes hyper-focused on uncovering the secrets lurking beneath the quaint facade of her seaside town.

Armed with her best friend and cousin, Penelope, a legal powerhouse on the cusp of partnership, Charlotte wields the power of the press. Her newspaper, the Salty Sleuth, becomes a thorn in the side of the sister-city’s established Carol Dune Chronicle, winning a Pulitzer Prize and exposing local corruption.

However, Charlotte's family ties and her relentless pursuit of truth makes her a target. Just as she believes she has unraveled a sinister plot, the ground shifts beneath her. She’s trying to avoid becoming the next victim before it's too late by unearthing the evil coming for her and the remainder of her family.

Charlotte and Penelope are put on retainer by an infamous self-made billionaire-ess to reopen the unsolved murder of her mother and it’s a messy business exhuming graves at sea level. Secret meetings at the cemetery, invisible criminals, and a surprise enemy, Charlotte is barely standing on her feet. There’s no time for romance or that beach get-a-away and that’s nothing new – her newspaper is her life, and she lives for the front pages.

Amy Tannenbaum - Jane Rotrosen Agency

"Thank you for the opportunity to review your material, and your patience in awaiting my response. I wish I had better news, but I’m sorry to say this isn’t a match. Of course, this is a highly subjective business, so another agent could certainly feel differently. Best of luck with your literary endeavors. Sincerely, Amy"

Jill Marsal - Marsal Lyon Literary Agency

"Thank you for your email. While THE SALTY SLEUTH sounds interesting, I don't think it is right for my list at this time. I appreciate your querying us and wish you good luck in finding the right agent who can successfully champion your work. Sincerely, Jill Marsal"

Abby Saul - The Lark Group

"Thank you for querying The Lark Group. We have read your query and regrettably, your project does not seem like a right fit for our agency. Thank you again for thinking of us. Please be well.
Sincerely, The Lark Group"

He unlocked his old Jeep that his mom bought for him for college, threw his backpack on the passenger seat, jumped in, and started his car. Pip walked out of the side door fifteen minutes later with the locket in hand. She was relieved. Aiden motioned to her to come closer so she could hear. The sea breeze was blowing so hard he could taste the salt in the air.

“Follow me.” He smiled and put it in gear. Pip nodded in agreement and walked to her SUV, her thick red hair taking flight with the salty wind. They drove to Aiden’s house and parked in front of it on the street.

“Do you like treasure?” he asked as they walked up to his front door. She noticed the seashell curtains in the window; something Aiden’s mother picked out for their home when she was still alive.
